In this series of videos, the Center for International Studies tours the horizon of the conventional wisdoms that affect U.S. foreign policy, and puts them to the test of data and history. By subjecting particularly well-accepted ideas to close scrutiny, CIS hopes to spark discussion and debate toward a result we can all agree on: better foreign policies that lead to a more peaceful and prosperous world.

Marco Mazzucchelli is former Depty CEO-Global Head of Banking at RBS Global Banking & Markets, and a visiting scholar at the MIT Sloan School.  

David Singer is Associate Professor in the MIT SHASS Department of Political Science.
