Naming and Addressing Overload at Work
How do you know when you start to feel overloaded at work? Many U.S. workers report anxiety about productivity and feel overwhelmed by workplace demands, a pattern echoed in MIT’s Quality of Life survey (2024). This workshop draws on Sloan faculty research (Kelly & Moen, 2020) to name and explore the roots of overload, and to help you identify potential tactics to address or prevent it. Participants will be reflect and explore individual and group tactics for understanding and intervening contributors to work overload.
By the end of this session, participants will learn:
- What dimensions of work intensity cause or can result in feelings of overload
- Strategies for designing targeted solutions to mitigate work intensity
- How individual employee changes can contribute to larger group and even organizational changes
- Tools and resources navigating overload
