Robin Wolfe Scheffler

Robin Wolfe Scheffler is an Associate Professor in the Program in Science, Technology, and Society. He studies the history of biology, biomedicine, and biotechnology in relationship to modern American Society, with an emphasis on merging the history of science with American history. He has pursued this effort through studies of fatigue, humor in science, and his first book, “A Contagious Cause: The American Hunt for Cancer Viruses and the Rise of Molecular Medicine.” He is currently at work on “Genetown,” the first ever history of the biotechnology industry in the Greater Boston Area. He is a co-convener of the MIT Faculty Bioeconomy Working Group.

Scheffler earned his doctorate from Yale University, an M.Phil from the University of Cambridge, and undergraduate degrees from the University of Chicago.
