MIT-Balliol College Faculty Exchange
About the MIT-Balliol College Faculty Exchange
MIT faculty are invited to create a proposal for the exchange program with Balliol College at Oxford University. This program is administered in the SHASS Dean’s Office.
The program covers air travel, room, and board expenses for the faculty member and spouse. No other stipends are provided. The length of a visit can range from one to four months, and can usually be tailored to individual needs, in order to coincide with a sabbatical or other leave. The Oxford academic year runs generally from October 1 to mid-June, but summer visits are also possible.
Applying for the exchange
How to apply
A formal proposal requires a brief, one-page description of the applicant’s area of research, the proposed timing of the visit, and a current CV. Strong preference is given to those applicants who have an identified “host” at Balliol.
Proposals should be sent (via email or hard copy) directly to Veronica Vivas.
Eligibility criteria
All MIT faculty are eligible.
Important dates
Proposals should be sent in December. We will update this page as the submission date comes nearer.
Balliol’s final decision is generally made in February.
