I think that alongside developing my technical skills, MIT taught me a lot about film appreciation and the evolution of movements in literature and film. This has helped me think more critically about the media I consume, and has expanded my tastes across a wide range of media.

Studying economics at MIT has been an eye-opening journey, teaching me to think critically about the world through mathematical modeling while acknowledging the limitations of such models.

I had not anticipated how much of my Spanish education would go beyond language-learning skills and enrich my cultural and historical understanding of the Spanish-speaking world.

One of the most enjoyable parts of studying Ancient and Medieval studies here at MIT has been that AMS allows me to really dive into a passion of mine and find a community of students like me in the process!

Economics provides a rigorous set of skills, critical reasoning, and iterative assumptions through which to understand and analyze the world.

My favorite thing about studying economics and political science is how it focuses on the impact you can have on people’s lives, from the smallest form of local government to the largest macroeconomic policies. Gaining strong quantitative skills, and learning how to apply these to a public policy or economic question, has allowed me to evaluate, understand, and pursue not just the simplest and most common policy solutions, but the most innovative, efficient, and research-backed solutions as well.

In Science, Technology, and Society (STS), I’ve been particularly fascinated by how technological advances have shaped modern bioengineering practices.

Through my STS classes, I have enjoyed learning about the historical and social context behind impactful technologies.

The skillfully led dialogues by outstanding professors like Dr. Chap Lawson and Dr. Mallick Gachem have prompted us to scrutinize our perspectives and tackle weighty questions such as “What is freedom?” and “Is a Utopia feasible?”. The conversations and coursework in these classes have broadened my approach to thinking about issues on personal, professional, and societal levels.
