Bailey Flanigan is the Theodore T. Miller (1922) Career Development Assistant Professor at MIT, cross-appointed in political science and computer science (LIDS). Her work uses methods from political theory, political methodology, algorithms, statistics, and social choice to design democratic tools for enhancing public participation. Applications of her work include sortition and deliberative democracy, participatory budgeting, ranked-choice voting, and participatory design of algorithms.
Flanigan earned a BS in Bioengineering and a Certificate in Math from the University of Wisconsin and a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.
