Graduate student, Linguistics

MIT graduate student William Pacheco

William Pacheco, a member of the Santo Domingo Pueblo, is a linguistics graduate student in MIT’s Indigenous Languages Initiative. He hopes to learn to properly teach and preserve his endangered native language, Keres, while also becoming a better learner and educator.

“I thought a background in linguistics would prove useful,” he says. “[The Pueblo] want to drive inquiries into Keres and how it’s taught while also centering Indigenous knowledge systems and expanding access to linguistics study for Indigenous scholars.”
