The Hormuz minefield
MIT political scientist Caitlin Talmadge, writing for Foreign Affairs, says the war in Iran has impacted oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which is responsible for the transport of 20 percent of the world’s oil supply. “An Iranian campaign against tanker traffic in the Gulf would confront the United States with difficult choices and could foment further escalation,” she says.
