School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences 2026 Advanced Degree Ceremony
Master’s and doctoral degrees across multiple SHASS graduate programs were conferred during the ceremony.
The MIT School of Humanities, Arts. and Social Sciences held its 2026 Advanced Degree Ceremony on Thursday, May 28 at 11 a.m.
Graduates, faculty, and family members gathered for the ceremony at the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing.
Carlos Mariano Salcedo ’25, SM ’26, who completed his graduate studies in MIT’s new Music Technology and Computation Graduate Program, delivered the student address.
In his speech, Salcedo urged fellow graduates to use the research in their respective fields to help improve the world and lead the way in developing humane-centered technology.
“Which means we don’t only just ask what we can build, but we also ask who is it going to affect?,” he said. “We’ve been trained to hold multiple viewpoints at the same time, to ask not only about knowledge but where does it come from? Who does it benefit? These are all key questions that we’re going to need as we keep doing these individual actions and collaborating across fields.”
