Bateson received APSA 2014 Gabriel A. Almond Award
Assistant professor Gina Bateson received the Almond Award for best dissertation in the field of comparative politics at APSA’s Annual Conference Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on August 28th in Washinton D.C., for her dissertation entitled "Order and Violence in Postwar Guatemala."

David Mindell named 2015 AAIA Associate Fellow
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has selected MIT historian and engineer David A. Mindell as a 2015 AIAA Associate Fellow. The AIAA selects individuals who have accomplished important engineering or scientific research; created original works of outstanding merit; or have made notable contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.

Evan Lieberman, Total Chair on Contemporary Africa and Professor of Political Science, received the award “to recognize distinction in methodological publications, innovative application of qualitative and multi-method approaches in substantive research, and/or institutional contributions to this area of methodology.”

Adam Berinsky and Chris Warshaw have been awarded a 2014 MITEI Seed Fund grant, to measure public opinion on an array of state-level energy policies. Additional research will examine whether the public holds state elected officials accountable for their energy policy decisions, and whether state policy outcomes are responsive to changes in public opinion.

Political Scientist Daniel Hidalgo receives 2014 Kellogg/Notre Dame Award
Daniel Hidalgo has won the 2014 Kellogg/Notre Dame Award for best paper in comparative politics—together with his co-author, Simeon Nichter of the University of California, San Diego. The Kellogg/Notre Dame Award recognizes outstanding research presented at the Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) Conference, one of the largest academic conferences held on political science each year. A scholarly association founded in 1939, the MPSA is the publisher of The American Journal of Political Science.

Brody received four IRNE Awards for his production: Best New Play, Midsize Theatre; Janie E. Howland, Best Set Design, Midsize Theatre; Best Ensemble, Midsize Theatre; Andy Sandberg, Best Director, Midsize Theatre.

Associate Professor of History Christopher Capozzola has been awarded the the the Cold War Essay Prize from the John Adams Center for Military History and Strategic Analysis at the Virginia Military Institute for his essay "Does the Constitution Follow the Soldier? Sovereignty, Citizenship, and U.S. Military Bases in Asia, 1945-1965."
