Spider Swing: A Video Animation

UROP team adapts the first movement of acclaimed MIT composer Elena Ruehr’s Eighth String Quartet

"Spider Swing" is the first movement of acclaimed MIT composer Elena Ruehr’s Eighth String Quartet entitled “Insect Dances.”

Envisioned as a piece of music and a narrative appropriate for children as well as adults, "Ruehr's Spider Swing" tells a story of six insects at a dance party. In the first movement, Spider plans the party, with much advice from Dragonfly, and a little encouragement from Grasshopper.

The video — including character design, backgrounds, storyboarding and animation — was created and produced by a group of MIT UROP students, starting first with Aria Kydd and Skylar Larsen, then expanding to include Tolu Akinbo, Aimee Liu, Rachel J Park, Hanna Park, Awen Gronda, and Michelle Escobar.
